Bern has German, French and international schools. Enrolment is handled through the Schulamt — the city's education department.

In summer, thousands of Bernese swim in the River Aare, float downstream on inflatable rings from Dalmaziquai to Marzili, or sunbathe on the riverbanks near the lidos.
The Marzili lido is the most visited in Switzerland. Free entry. Open May to September.
